About Us
Joyce and Murchison King purchased commercial property at 3324 5th Street in Ward 8 20 years ago. This property was a 4-unit apartment complex rented to tenants. In February 2001, The Kings started offering residential services to adults with mental illness seeking halfway and group living. This services were independently known as a Community Resident facility (CRF) and licensed by DC Department of Behavioral Health (DCDBH) for 4 beds and 24/7 staffing. In 2002, the home was issued a new license for 6 beds, increasing capacity for a population in needed in the DC region.
For over 13 years, Joyce and Murchison King CRF successfully passed over 15 inspections, have been awarded over $30k in grant money, and maintained full occupancy with 3 residents being original bed holders. Throughout these successful years, the business continued to grow and maintain a good reputation with popular community stakeholders such as; Bread for the City, Community Connection, MBI Health Services, and PSI Family Services.
In 2015, Joyce and Murchison King CRF received another grant to make repairs to their business by replacing the roof and windows. In addition, the business started preparation for a second affiliated location in ward 8 on Savannah Pl. In 2016, after receiving a license in April, the home’s 4 beds were filled to capacity within 30 days. In July 2016, Joyce and Murchison King CRF was fully transitioned into Community Works, LLC.
2017, Community Works, LLC opened an additional home to include 6 additional beds for those needing residential support in the greater Washington DC. Community Works, LLC operates two licensed units and are in the process of expanded services to 4 more additional beds by the end of 2019.
